Remember You Must Die A Curated Exhibition from the Memento Mori Collection of Ryan Matthew Cohn
The Octagon House in Irvington, New York, presents a limited exhibition drawn from the personal memento mori collection of collector and artist Ryan Matthew Cohn — much of it acquired from Richard Harris, whose decades-long pursuit assembled one of the world's most significant collections of death-related art and material culture.
Installed in what was once the Billiards Room of the historic Octagon House, the exhibition traces how societies across centuries and continents have understood mortality — through ritual, remembrance, and symbolism — with the nineteenth century's mourning traditions standing as one of its richest periods of expression. Rather than presenting death as something hidden, it examines how earlier generations folded it into daily life, memory, and art.
On view September 25 – November 2, 2026, included with all guided tours.
